I’ve lived in Wichita nearly all of my life! I was born here, raised here, graduated high school here, married my wife Erin here, had my children here, and grown my business here. The only times I have lived outside of Wichita were when I was in school at Kansas State and when I worked in Colorado Springs for a few years after graduation.
The people. We have a ton of great assets in this city… high quality arts and entertainment, a growing and vibrant business community, wonderful safety net organizations, and the list goes one. We have everything a city needs to be complete, but what makes all of it work, and what makes Wichita special, is the people. We are a caring and welcoming community made of great thinkers and people willing to engage. When someone needs help we step up, when we have great ideas we take risks, and when we face problems we band together. We have great people.
Just do it. I can’t tell you how many stories I have heard from people that were reluctant to move here but once they were around for a while they loved it and end up staying a long time.
We are in the beginning years of a renaissance, there is so much excitement in our city right now I can hardly imagine the changes we will make over the next 10 years!
This will sound weird coming from a construction guy, but there isn’t any one project, or collection of projects, that will take our city to the next level. From my viewpoint the number one thing holding our community back is ourselves. Once we decide that it’s okay to talk about the great things we have going on and be proud of our recent accomplishments then we will be on the right path. Celebrating success builds momentum and that is exactly what we need more of right now.
